When it comes to lights on our cars we don’t NEED to go with a HUGE number of lights. A simple rule when it comes to mounting lights . Do not mount the lights higher than eye level. Anything higher will illuminate fog and dust and block your vision past the front of your car.

A good set up can be seen here on Bryans car from Orange County California.

Simple two lights mounted a below eye level. BTW Bryan is selling this car you can find out more information by clicking the picture.

If you need a better view of what’s going on at night you can do what Mike And his Son AJ did with their Funco, Below 10K’s first ride of the month. Again you can pick up Below 10K’s first ride of the month it is also for sale. Click the picture for more info

6 lights total. None are higher than eye level. 2 pointed to the sides, two pencil beams just below that and a lower wattage set at the front to illuminate the shadows that are caused by the shock mounts and wheels.

Then to the hard part, for me any way, The wiring. Below is a diagram on a typical light wiring circuit.

Remember in the dunes you MUST have at least one SOLID red light on the back of your car. So I would make sure to wire your car to have the tail lights come on with your primary light switch. It’s not a bad idea to tie your whip light (If you run one) in to the same circuit.

One thing I have seen a lot is lights and gauges set up without fuses. BAD IDEA.

Use fuses and or circuit breakers.

Use sealed switches

Use appropriate gauge wire.

This is a very SHORT, VERY simple, start to setting up lights on your rail. More helpful information on this subject can be found in the ELECTRICAL SECTION If you have questions Or have something to add Please Click the discussion box.
